Actor-filmmaker Manobala passes away at 69 in Chennai due to liver-related ailments

Tamil cinema fans and stars are in shock following the passing of multi-faceted actor Manobala on Wednesday. The actor-filmmaker, who had been suffering from liver-related ailments, passed away at the age of 69 at his residence in Chennai where he had been receiving treatment. Manobala had been admitted to Apollo Hospital in Chennai earlier and was later moved to his home in Saligramam. Unfortunately, he had not responded to treatment for the past fifteen days and breathed his last this afternoon.

Manobala was not only known for his comedic roles but was also a renowned director in the 80s and 90s, having directed popular actors such as Rajinikanth, Radhika, Suhasini, Prabhu, Sathyaraj, and Sivaji Ganesan. Some of his notable films include Oorkavalan, En Purushanthaan Enakku Mattumthaan, and Dhoorathu Pachai.

Additionally, Manobala had shared screen space with leading actors in Tamil cinema, such as Dhanush, Suriya, Vijay, Karthi, and Jayam Ravi. His memorable performances in films like Yaaradi Nee Mohini, Siruthai, and Nanban, despite playing small roles, earned him widespread popularity and respect.

Superstar Rajinikanth, who had acted in Manobala’s directorial Oorkavalan, took to Twitter to express his condolences for the loss of his dear friend. He wrote, “I am deeply saddened by the passing away of my dear friend Manobhala, a famous director and actor. My condolences to his family. May his soul rest in peace.”
