Kannada actor Sunil Raoh has been cast as the lead in the upcoming biopic on the life of Hindutva ideologue and former Hindu Mahasabha President, Vinayak ‘Veer’ Damodar Savarkar. The biopic will be directed by Radhakrishna Pallaki, who has directed five films in the past. This is his first biopic and he has spent six months researching the subject. Pallaki had previously quit his job in Railways, joined theatre, acted in over 50 movies before starting his career as a director.
Sunil Raoh is excited to play the role of Savarkar in the film and talked about it in an interview with The New Indian Express. He said that Radhakrishna is bringing out the accounts of Veer Savarkar’s life that are already in the public domain, and the film will begin shooting on March 25. According to Sunil, he is extremely happy to play such an important figure in Indian history. He added that he doesn’t look at any particular perspective while playing a character like Savarkar, and sees it as an opportunity to portray a compelling role. Sunil said that playing a character of such stature will be a challenging task.
Sunil also talked about the preparations he has undertaken to get into the character of Savarkar. He said that he had to undergo a gradual process of transformation to play the role of the Hindutva ideologue. According to him, Savarkar’s biopic offered him an opportunity to portray a variety of emotions on the screen, something which he could not have done while playing pivotal roles in other movies made on contemporary subjects.
Apart from Sunil Raoh, actors like Sai Kumar, Anu Prabhakar, Ravi Shankar, and Rangayana Raghu will also play key characters. The producers of this film are planning to rope in Anupam Kher to play a pivotal character. The biopic has been produced by KN Chakrapani under the banner of Hondaavare Films.
